The unique Mercedes-Benz G500 Classic, produced in an edition of four hundred copies, in honor of the twentieth production anniversary! The Mercedes-Benz G-Class was launched in 1979 as a military off-road vehicle. The robust character of the car and its off-road capabilities make the Geländewagen (roughly translated as all-terrain vehicle) the choice for the Dutch (since 1992) and German army and countless security units worldwide.
The G-Class was developed as a military vehicle from a suggestion of the Shah of Iran (at the time a major Mercedes shareholder) to Mercedes and offered as a civilian version in 1979. In its more than thirty years of existence, the exterior has hardly changed. However, the engines have been constantly replaced and the interior has been refurbished over the years. In 2010, the G-Class 30th Edition was launched as a special anniversary model. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is available in various body styles, namely a pick-up, ambulance, van, a short station version, a long station version, convertible, a military scout vehicle and an extended version with rear doors. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has three types over the years: 460, this was the first G-Class. In 1990 the luxurious version was released with a multi-passenger car interior, the 463 Baureihe. Because the 463 had actually become too luxurious, the 461 was released, this simpler version was with fabric upholstery and a simple interior, this model has been available for a long time for utility customers such as farmers, fire brigade, construction, etc. There are both diesel and gasoline variants marketed. Almost all heavier Mercedes-Benz passenger car engines have found their place under the hood in the G-Class. Today the G-Class is characterized by its classic appearance, its rare appearance and its luxurious interior, which is not inferior to the Mercedes top class sedans. The G-Class is one of the most stable cars currently for sale. Demand for the G-Class is extremely high and sales have grown strongly since the rising popularity of the SUV segment, mainly in the United States. In 2004 Mercedes Benz introduced the G 55 Kompressor, a 476 hp strong G-Class, the ultimate G-Class built by in-house tuner AMG. The G-Class is built in Graz by Steyr-Daimler-Puch; an industrial association that has been producing the G-Class for thirty years. The car is largely built by hand.
Mercedes developed this special anniversary version on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the G-class. This version was produced in a limited edition of a maximum of 400 pieces and can be recognized by the special color "Almandinschwarsch metallic and the special rims. The car is equipped with sliding / tilting roof, air conditioning, parking heater with remote control and a full leather interior with red accents A copy of this edition was not readily available, which means that the first owner of this car held an important position under the government of President Boris Yeltsin, where Vladimir Putin was Prime Minister. A limited batch Mercedes G-class dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the production of this famous SUV was delivered in Moscow Since very few copies were available and the demand was high, it was decided to distribute these cars among influential people and organizations.
An enclosed copy of the registration certificates contains the home address of the first owner: Kutuzovsky Prospekt 26 in Moscow. This is a very famous house in the center of Moscow where world famous people like Leonid Brezhnev (leader of the USSR Communist Party), Yuri Andropov (leader KGB, and after the death of Brezhnev, the next leader of the Communist Party and the president of the USSR). The car was bought and delivered directly to the garage of a country house. It was used extremely rarely, mainly for hunting trips in different forests. As VIPs' names and addresses are closed information even after they left government offices, the first information about this car appeared in open sources in 2016 after the owner's name was renewed. All information from before can be found in the maintenance booklet. This also applies to the registered mileage at MOT.
A long story short, a special car with a special and documented past. If you are in the market for a G-class collectable then you must have seen this. We would therefore like to invite you to come and experience this G500 in real life with us in Sassenheim, the coffee is ready!
